The Illinois Energy Codes Compliance Collaborative first met in 2017, as part of a potential energy code enhancement program. The collaborative then reconvened in May 2018 for a series of meetings held in various locations throughout the state, with an overall goal to help identify potential opportunities and resources for improving energy code compliance.
The collaborative will also provide direction on an upcoming observational field study to help establish a baseline of common practices related to the energy codes. This study is random, anonymous, and will be used only to determine if additional resources for energy code compliance are needed in Illinois. Statewide participation is encouraged in order to make sure the baseline is accurate and the appropriate support mechanisms are developed. This research project is led by MEEA and is funded by the Illinois electric and gas utilities, with some assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy. This work will be supplemental to the ongoing assistance provided by SEDAC and the IL EPA.
