Throughout our 35 year history in the Kansas City area, Metropolitan Energy Center has served as a catalyst for the environmental and economic vitality of America’s Heartland. We are committed to building community capacity and promoting local action to achieve positive, long-lasting change. MEC is the only nonprofit in the Kansas City area that is dedicated exclusively to reversing climate change through the reduction of fossil fuel use and the cultivation of clean energy alternatives. Through establishing community partnerships, MEC strives to empower our communities to adopt and advocate for clean energy and resource efficiency practices. Through our long history and our work with the Department of Energy Clean Cities Program, we have established ourselves as an authority on energy conservation initiatives in both transportation and buildings. We aim to use our experience, knowledge, and resources to equip local communities with the tools and information they need to enact real progress toward sustainability. We provide boots-on-the-ground action against climate change and harmful pollutants, as we help cities and businesses go green vehicle by vehicle and building by building. MEC strives to preserve the livability of our communities for generations to come.
