Senior Building Policy Associate
Maddie Johnston is the Senior Building Policy Associate at MEEA. As such, she works to improve energy efficiency in buildings in the Midwest by advancing building energy code and benchmarking ordinance/BPS adoption, implementation and compliance.
Prior to MEEA, Maddie was an attorney for a national law firm, defending environmental and product toxic tort matters (asbestos, benzene and other chemical exposure). Previously, Maddie practiced civil defense litigation in her hometown of St. Louis. She represented medical professionals and attorneys in malpractice cases, as well as various employers in matters of discrimination. In connection with this work, she was named to Super Lawyers’ 2020 and 2021 Rising Stars list. Since 2012, Maddie has been an active member of the Missouri Prairie Foundation, a statewide non-profit organization that specializes in the protection and preservation of original, unplowed prairie. Indeed, she has served as the organization's Vice President since 2018. Maddie received her bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies and Biology from Denison University in Ohio, and her Juris Doctor degree from Saint Louis University School of Law. While in law school, she served as President of the Environmental Law Society and was a Lead Editor for the Journal of Health Law and Policy.
In her spare time, Maddie loves to be outside - camping, hiking, fishing, you name it! She also likes to unwind by watching Turner Classic Movies.
