Bringing Strategic Programs to Market

When MEEA first started, several state agencies approached us with limited budgets and the desire to make a big impact in the market by creating an energy efficiency rebate and distribution program around ENERGY STAR® compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). CFLs were targeted due to the low cost of entry by both program sponsors and their customers. Through its strategic network and implementation resources, MEEA facilitated a program that helped aggregate several small program budgets into a multistate campaign that rebated over 2.5 million CFLs and saved almost a billion kilowatt-hours of electricity over the life of the program.  Since then, MEEA has grown from facilitation of that single lighting program to a broad suite of energy efficiency programs for consumers, utilities, businesses, and government and continues to develop new programs and new ideas.

One of the greatest benefits MEEA brings to the market is our collaborative network and program implementation resources.  MEEA program staff helps to bridge the gap between the adoption of energy efficiency policies to achieving the energy savings goals. From increasing market adoption of energy efficient light bulbs to training businesses and builders how to save energy and money in homes and offices, MEEA helps secure funding, formulate ideas, and implement strategic energy efficiency programs throughout the region. Each year partners and members approach MEEA with a program idea, program funding, and energy efficiency goals.  MEEA steps in and makes it happen across the region. We help create and implement programs that will save energy and resources throughout the Midwest.  As the Source on Energy Efficiency, MEEA helps our sponsors and partners achieve measurable results in both energy and dollar savings.

Emerging Tech

Energy efficiency is technology-driven. New energy efficient technologies seek to enhance the gains in energy efficiency made in previous generations of technology, and to compensate for the increased energy use as we use more and more high-tech products within our homes and businesses.   As new products emerge into the market they often come at a higher price point than existing technologies, and can be intimidating and risk-prone. MEEA's Emerging Technologies programs are there to help manage the risks in bringing new energy efficient technologies to the market, to increase market adoption, and to ensure that the first steps into these new markets aren't missteps.

Training & Education

Throughout the year, MEEA provides training and education to diverse audiences on energy efficiency and related topics. These events offer unique opportunities for MEEA's members and partners to participate in sponsorships, training, and to learn more about energy efficiency.  MEEA's Training and Education programs bring best practices to utilities and energy efficiency contractors, teach building operators to take control of their building's energy use, and teach the next generation how to incorporate energy efficiency into their everyday lives.
