The Energy Center of Wisconsin will deliver a free webinar, Rethinking Biogas: An Emerging Energy Source in the Midwest, on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 1:00pm – 2:00pm CDT. The webinar will be presented by Peter Taglia, Staff Scientist of Clean Wisconsin. The Midwest contains the world's largest concentration of productive agriculture and food processing, and produces enormous amounts of animal and food waste. However, only a tiny portion of these wastes is converted to biogas, a renewable substitute for natural gas that reduces fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas pollution. Taglia will discuss the potential for this renewable energy resource to grow by examining biogas sources, conversion technologies, and outputs together with energy policies needed to support them.
This webinar kicks off a complimentary 3-part Bioenergy Webinar Series that will explore the vast opportunities to convert waste streams from agriculture, food processing and forestry to biogas. Presentations will also examine the deployment of waste digesters in the U.S. and abroad and will look at case studies from the food processing industry. Additional topics include Biogas: Developing a Statewide Plan for Wisconsin's Opportunity Fuel on October 20, 2010 and Midwest Food Processors Anaerobic Digester Casebook on November 23, 2010.
