HVAC systems are major retrofit targets for reducing energy use in commercial buildings. Heating, cooling and ventilating taken together account for 45% to 70% of the building's energy use. In comparison, lighting ranges from 10% to 30% of energy use in a commercial building. While energy use in buildings is affected by climate, building type, and building usage, optimizing the HVAC system can yield significant energy savings.
