Senior Policy Manager

Julia Friedman serves as MEEA’s Senior Policy Manager, responsible for advancing state and federal energy efficiency policies and developing strategic relationships with other advocacy, utility and industry partners. Most recently, Julia served as a Program Director for the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO), where she oversaw the organization’s work on comprehensive energy planning, renewable energy grid integration, industrial energy efficiency and established the organization’s transportation program. Prior to her work at NASEO, Julia worked for the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), where she covered issues ranging from cyber security and critical infrastructure protection to solar energy deployment. In both her positions at NASEO and NARUC, she secured and managed federal grants from the U.S Departments of Energy and Homeland Security as well as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She earned a Master of City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University and her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago. Beyond work, Julia enjoys exploring Chicago’s improv comedy scene and eating everything delicious that Chicago has to offer.
